Walk with Bigodi, not just through it.

Local guides lead you through Bigodi's wetlands, village paths and everyday life — and your visit supports the community.

What we offer

Experiences

Half a day or several days — all of it led by people who live here.

A great blue turaco perched on a lichen-covered branch, its blue body and yellow-and-red bill clear against the canopy.

The swamp and the birds

The wetland walk BICOWA is known for: papyrus paths, the birds that live in them, and the swamp read by someone who has known it all their life. Go at first light for the birding, or after dark for everything else.

A member of the Bigodi Women's Group kneeling on a mat, holding out a metal tray of green coffee beans, a basket of dried coffee cherries beside her.

Food, coffee, vanilla and banana

Cook and eat with the community, follow coffee from farm to cup, walk the vanilla gardens, taste banana beer, gin and juice.

Dozens of coiled baskets and woven plates laid out on a mat, in many colours and spiral patterns.

Craft, culture and healing

Basket weaving and cultural dance with the women of Bigodi, and medicinal plants with the community healer.

Open water under a bank of tall cloud, with a low ridge of hills along the far shore.

Further afield, and longer

The Kasenda crater lakes, and multi-day stays that string the walks together — the longest of them adding chimpanzee trekking.

Our community

A walk shaped by the people who live here

Bigodi's guides share the landscape they know through conversation, observation and everyday stories. Come curious, ask questions and take your time.

Every walk is organised and run by Bigodi residents, under the name Bigodi Community Walk — BICOWA.
